Logan’s Reviews: Evil Dead

Evil Dead- A Bloody Shame

Huge breaking news if you’ve never read my writing before- I love horror films. And like many of my like-minded peers, Evil Dead was one of the first films to grab my attention.

The original film is something so special to me- it pushes boundaries in ways nothing before it had. The gore, the effects, the camera work- this movie was special in a way only a few movies get the privilege of being. It was unique, clever, and misunderstood in all the right ways. Had the film been taken literally, it would perhaps have disappeared into the masses of low budget horror a la Hershell Gordon Lewis (see? you probably never even heard of him). Instead, viewers found something cheeky and campy in this film and the shlocky performance of Bruce Campbell. It became a cult favorite, spawned an even campier sequel, and made Campbell an icon.
